In 1985 Pacific Bell initiated work on "Project Victoria", a proposed rollout of digital interactive services to the home based on ISDN (Integrated Services Digital Network) technology.
Evaluate Telephone System Portal
They asked The Communication Studio to do a technical assessment of the available presentation platforms and the viability of interactive online services. We performed testing on the proposed technologies, evaluated the proposed services and provided our "take" on the likely possibilities and pitfalls.
Electronic Publishing Productivity Software
We also licensed our TCS Textup Context Management System to Pacbell's InfoPac and CareerWise internal business systems units so that they could more easily maintain their online publishing environment.
Technology Assessment
This was another one of the projects that we supported "virtually", since we were physically at the other end of the country from our client.
“In 1985, when Pacific Bell was rolling out the demonstration
of 'Project Victoria', its invented and user-controllable DSL
technology (later disallowed by the FCC and Judge Greene), John
helped by designing the user interface for what was one of the
1st high speed residential multiservice applications in the US
... accomplished with customary taste, haste and under less than
perfect circumstances.”
